Aim Small, Miss Small In Life

In 1776 South Carolina, widower Benjamin Martin was thrust into the American Revolutionary War, recruiting several hesitant volunteers.  After he sees his son killed in front of his eyes, he gathers his young family to stand against the British, who are trying to steal their freedom and independence.  Martin tells his two young boys, as they are about to aim at the Redcoats, “Aim Small, Miss Small.”

Taking the Right Path

This truth applies to life as well.  We need to know who we are created to be when we aim at a primary target, i.e., a particular vocation or position in a company.  One slight misalignment can now explode into a path miles from where you are designed to be.  Thomas Merton said, “People spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find, once they reach the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall.”

Some people find themselves in a career or job that is not fulfilling or even boring, but they don’t know what it would take to be satisfied.  Looking at your life from several different angles will reveal new perspectives.  Viewing your life in new ways will clarify your unique gifts and talents by asking probing questions to better understand you.  For example, are you a people or project person?  What are your comfort zones – are you more comfortable as a leader or in a support role?  Perspective Quest uses these techniques to help you find your right path.
